Walden Savings Bank Buries Time Capsule as 150th Anniversary Commemorations Continue
A commemorative coin, a selfie stick and Walden Savings Bank branded beer were among the items buried in a time capsule by Walden Savings Bank at its Scott’s Corners headquarters in Montgomery on Tuesday. The ceremony was one of the bank’s 150th anniversary celebrations taking place this year. The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 50 years – marking the bank’s bicentennial.
“Walden Savings Bank’s history is the history of our region and country,” said Bank President Derrik Wynkoop, who led the ceremony with members of the bank’s Board of Directors. “This is our way of sending a message to the people of 2072 about what life is like today, for our Walden Savings Bank family and the communities we serve.”
The capsule was buried by the flagpole at the bank’s headquarters. The spot was marked with a plaque bearing the bank’s 150th anniversary logo and theme: “Celebrating Our Community, Customers and Employees.”
The ceremony was the latest in a series of sesquicentennial events. These also have included the debut of renovations and technological upgrades of the Scott’s Corners Branch and the ringing of the Old Chime Clock at the bank’s original headquartered location in Walden for the first time in almost three decades. An invitation to the April 25, 2022 clock ringing was one of the items buried in the capsule. Others included:
- Scott’s Corners Branch Transformation Photos and Information
- 150th Anniversary Employee Journal
- Invitations to Walden Savings Banks many 150th Anniversary Events
- Masks & Hand Sanitizers
- Information on Shred Days & Fraud Prevention
- Walden Savings Bank Branded Sour Beer from Hudson Valley Brewery
“At our bicentennial in 2072, we hope that Walden Savings Bank team members will open this capsule with members of our communities and hear our message,” Wynkoop said. “We want them to know, and experience, the rich history Walden Savings Bank has fostered by serving our communities with care and dedication to improving the lives around us.”
